Active release technique (ART)
State-of-the-art in soft tissue treatment
What is Active Release Techniques (ART)
ART is a patented soft tissue system/movement based massage technique. At Thrive Chiropractic Centre, ART is used in conjunction with other treatment modalities (including joint manipulation and mobilisation, exercise prescription, taping, and lifestyle advice) to deliver a comprehensive approach to the treatment of your presenting condition.
What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. Your practitioner will use his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Problematic tissues are treated by the application of precise tension by the practitioner, while the patient is directed to move in specific directions.
Sam is currently the only practitioner in Canberra to have completed ART modules covering the entire body, as well as certain advanced ART technique seminars.
What is the history of Active Release Techniques?
ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt and treated by hand. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.
